Re-adapted for solo piano, this track is originally The Woman's Lament from the chamber opera 'Window Shopping' which is set in a shoe boutique. The title is a word play on the literal 'ground' where shoes walk on, and the repeating ground bass that is typical of a Baroque Lament. Quotations embedded in the music include 'Ariadne's Love' and Dick Lee's 'Home'.

 

For SG50, this was recorded as part of the SG Inspirations album, organised by a collective of Singaporean composers led by performers Alan Choo and Hengyue Lin.
