Inspired by a finger painting of the late Singaporean painter Wu Tsai-Yen, the title of "Three Trees" (Three Friends in Winter) represents the bamboo, pine tree, and plum blossoms. This alludes the Confucian saying that one can always learn something when traveling in a trio. Written for Cheryl Lim, this piece is also a celebration of friendship.
