Sandcastles (2015)
for violin and piano
"His Sandcastles is dreamy and builds up with waves of sound..."
- The Straits Times
Instrumentation:
violin and piano
Duration: 6'
Written for violinist Alan Choo's debut on the Embassy Recital Series, this piece was premiered at the Singapore Embassy in Washington DC on 7th May 2015. It paints a picture of my childhood growing up near the coast in eastern Singapore. Recently, a jog near the coast brought back the nostalgia of building sandcastles (real ones and those in the air), flying kites, and playing at the playground with carefree abandon. This work is dedicated to childhood memories.
The work was recorded by Alan Choo (violin) and Lin Hengyue (piano), released on the album SG Inspirations (2015), a compilations of short Singaporean works.
